Restaurants throughout the US are struggling to stay open due to the Corona Virus. California Governor Gavin Newsom said that he was “asking our restaurants to close down, for the moment, provide takeout if they wish, and operate in that frame. But that will focus an alignment throughout the state of California at this point, we believe it’s necessary.”

With a “shelter in place” policy, Newsom is calling for California to practice social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Many people are partaking in social distancing and only leaving their home for the essentials. Due to this many restaurants are struggling to stay open, especially smaller businesses such as a vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Pomona.

Borreguitas in Pomona California is a vegan/ vegetarian restaurant that has temporarily closed in Southern California. They announced their closure through their Instagram page, only a week after announcing that they would remain open.

Some restaurants cannot strive on strictly on takeout or delivery, so their businesses are hurting. The picture is much bigger than having a restaurant closure. People are losing their jobs. They have no means for providing for their families or paying their bills. Within Washington alone more than 300,000 people across Washington state could lose their jobs by the summer due to impacts from the novel coronavirus outbreak, a new analysis predicted. Restaurants and their workers aren’t the only ones who are being affected by temporary closures. Farmers, suppliers, linens, florists, distributors, the wine and beverage industries, and more will suffer because they provide their business and products for restaurants. If the restaurant’s businesses fails or suffers so will their providers.
